Renee Zellweger

Background

Born in Katy, Texas, to a Swiss father and Norwegian-Sami mother, Zellweger graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in English. Her breakthrough was Cameron Crowe’s “Jerry Maguire” (1996).

Career

Sharon Maguire’s “Bridget Jones’s Diary” (2001) made her a global comic lead despite her Texas origins. She has worked with Rob Marshall on “Chicago”, Anthony Minghella on “Cold Mountain”, and Rupert Goold on “Judy” (2019) as Judy Garland.

Style

Zellweger is recognized for body transformation across the “Bridget Jones” series and Judy Garland’s late-career physical decline. She has also long avoided the press and took a six-year hiatus before returning with “Bridget Jones’s Baby” (2016).
