Background
Born Maria Halle Berry in Cleveland, Ohio, to a Black father and white mother, she was raised mostly by her mother. She won Miss Teen All American in 1985 and was first runner-up at Miss USA 1986.
Career
After her breakthrough in “Jungle Fever” (1991), she appeared in the “X-Men” trilogy as Storm and the Bond film “Die Another Day”. Her acclaimed performance in “Monster’s Ball” (2001) earned her historic Oscar.
Style
Berry made her directorial debut with “Bruised” (2020), which she also produced and starred in. She has been outspoken about colorism in Hollywood and has long campaigned for greater representation of Black women in lead roles.
