Julianne Moore

Background

Born Julie Anne Smith in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to a military judge father and Scottish social-worker mother, Moore graduated from Boston University’s School for the Arts before moving to New York.

Career

After steady work on the soap opera “As the World Turns”, she crossed to film with Robert Altman’s “Short Cuts” (1993). Five Oscar nominations over twenty years preceded her win for Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland’s “Still Alice”.

Style

Moore is recognized for emotionally exposed performances and a long collaboration with Todd Haynes. She has also written a children’s book series, “Freckleface Strawberry”, that became a successful musical.
