He broke through with Asif Kapadia’s “The Warrior” and Vishal Bhardwaj’s “Maqbool,” then took international supporting roles in “The Namesake,” “Slumdog Millionaire,” “Life of Pi,” and Marc Webb’s “The Amazing Spider-Man.” He led “The Lunchbox,” “Piku,” and “Hindi Medium” before his death from a rare cancer in 2020.
