Background

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Price studied art history at Yale University and the Courtauld Institute of Art in London before turning to acting on the London stage.

Career

He played supporting roles through the 1940s in “Laura,” “Leave Her to Heaven,” and “Dragonwyck,” then became closely identified with horror through Andre De Toth’s “House of Wax,” Kurt Neumann’s “The Fly,” and Roger Corman’s Edgar Allan Poe adaptations. Michael Reeves’s “Witchfinder General” gave him one of his most acclaimed performances. He provided the spoken-word narration on Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”

Style

Price’s resonant voice and erudite background gave him a distinctive gothic-villain screen persona that he wielded across film, radio, television, and a celebrated cookbook with wife Mary.
