Background
Born William James Dafoe in Appleton, Wisconsin, the seventh of eight children, he left the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to join the experimental theatre company Theatre X, then co-founded The Wooster Group in New York.
Career
He earned an Oscar nomination for Sergeant Elias in Oliver Stone’s “Platoon,” played Jesus in Martin Scorsese’s “The Last Temptation of Christ,” and Max Schreck in “Shadow of the Vampire,” another Oscar nomination. He plays Norman Osborn/Green Goblin in Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and worked with Robert Eggers on “The Lighthouse” and Lars von Trier on “Antichrist.”
