Marion Cotillard

Background

Born in Paris to an actress mother and theater-director father, Cotillard trained at the Conservatoire d’Art Dramatique d’Orleans. She broke through in France with the “Taxi” comedies in the 1990s.

Career

Olivier Dahan cast her as Edith Piaf in “La Vie en Rose” (2007). She has worked with Michael Mann, Christopher Nolan, the Dardenne brothers, and Leos Carax on bilingual French-American productions.

Style

Cotillard is recognized for vocal preparation, physical transformation, and crossing fluently between French and English-language projects. She is a long-running ambassador for Greenpeace and was awarded the Legion of Honour in 2010.
