Background

Born in Christiansted, US Virgin Islands, Duncan was a competitive swimmer before turning to basketball as a teenager. He played four years at Wake Forest before being drafted first overall by San Antonio in 1997.

Career

He spent all 19 seasons with the Spurs, winning titles in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014. He formed a long-running partnership with Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and coach Gregg Popovich.

Style of play

A 6’11” power forward known for footwork, bank shots, and defensive positioning, Duncan was nicknamed “The Big Fundamental” for his low-flash, high-efficiency style.
