Background
Born Eusebio da Silva Ferreira in Lourenco Marques, Mozambique (then Portuguese East Africa), he joined Benfica at 18 in 1961 and quickly broke into the senior team.
Career
He spent 15 seasons at Benfica, winning 11 league titles and the 1962 European Cup. At the 1966 World Cup in England he led Portugal to a third-place finish, scoring four times in the quarter-final against North Korea.

A right-footed inside forward with sprint speed and powerful long-range shooting, Eusebio combined finishing with the ability to break from deep positions.
