Background

Born in Philadelphia, Chamberlain attended the University of Kansas before playing a season with the Harlem Globetrotters and joining the Philadelphia Warriors in 1959.

Career

He played for the Warriors (in Philadelphia and San Francisco), the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Los Angeles Lakers, winning titles in 1967 and 1972. On March 2, 1962, he scored 100 points against the New York Knicks, a record that still stands.

Style of play

A 7’1” center with rare athleticism for his size, Chamberlain combined low-post scoring with rebounding and shot-blocking. He led the NBA in rebounds 11 times.
