Origins
Dell was founded in 1984 by Michael Dell while he was a student at the University of Texas at Austin. Originally named PCs Limited, the company pioneered a direct-sales model and was renamed Dell Computer Corporation in 1988.
Products
Dell produces a wide range of laptops and desktops including the XPS, Inspiron, and Latitude lines, along with Alienware gaming systems. Dell Technologies also produces PowerEdge servers, storage systems, and networking equipment.
Operations
Dell is headquartered in Round Rock, Texas. After merging with EMC Corporation in 2016, Dell Technologies became one of the largest privately held technology companies before returning to public trading.
