Origins
McDonald’s was founded in 1940 by Richard and Maurice McDonald in San Bernardino, California, originally as a barbecue restaurant. The brothers introduced the Speedee Service System in 1948, and Ray Kroc joined the company in 1955 to expand it nationally.
