Origins
Yahoo was founded in January 1994 by Jerry Yang and David Filo, both Stanford graduate students. Originally called Jerry and David’s Guide to the World Wide Web, it was renamed Yahoo! in March 1994.

Yahoo Mail is one of the largest webmail services. Yahoo Finance is widely used for financial news and stock quotes. Yahoo Sports, Yahoo News, and the Yahoo home page remain popular destinations.
Operations
Headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. Verizon acquired Yahoo’s core internet business in 2017, merged it with AOL, and later sold it in 2021 to Apollo Global Management, which now operates the company.
