Career
He broke through in “10 Things I Hate About You” and “A Knight’s Tale,” then earned an Oscar nomination for Ang Lee’s “Brokeback Mountain.” His final completed role as the Joker in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” earned a posthumous Academy Award. He died in January 2008 during the shoot of Terry Gilliam’s “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.”
