Born Uhm Hong-sik in Daegu, South Korea, Yoo entered the Korean film industry through Hwang Cheol-mean’s 2003 indie “Boys of Tomorrow” and trained largely on the job.

He starred in Lee Joon-ik’s “The Throne” as Crown Prince Sado opposite Song Kang-ho, the action hit “Veteran,” Lee Chang-dong’s Cannes-premiered “Burning” opposite Steven Yeun, and Netflix’s “Hellbound” from Yeon Sang-ho.
