Background

Born in Philadelphia to a wealthy Irish American family, Kelly studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. She supported herself as a fashion model before her Hollywood debut.

Career

A five-year film career produced 11 features, including three Hitchcock thrillers — “Dial M for Murder”, “Rear Window”, and “To Catch a Thief”. She won her Oscar for “The Country Girl” (1954) before retiring at age 26.

Style

Kelly’s wedding to Prince Rainier III of Monaco in 1956 was watched by an estimated 30 million viewers, ending her film career. As Princess Grace she became a noted patron of the arts in Monaco until her death in a 1982 car accident.
