Background

Born Xavier Hernandez i Creus in Terrassa, Spain, Xavi joined Barcelona’s La Masia academy at age 11 and made his senior debut for the club in 1998.

Career

He spent 17 seasons at Barcelona, helping the club win four Champions League titles. With Spain he was part of the squads that won Euro 2008, the 2010 World Cup, and Euro 2012. He later played for Al Sadd in Qatar before retiring in 2019.

Style of play

A central midfielder with short, accurate passing and constant movement, Xavi was the metronome of the Barcelona possession game and one of the most-capped Spanish players.
