DHL was founded in 1969 in San Francisco by Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom, and Robert Lynn, whose surnames provide the initials. The company started by flying bills of lading by air between San Francisco and Honolulu.

DHL Express provides international door-to-door courier service. DHL Global Forwarding handles freight forwarding by air, ocean, and rail. DHL Supply Chain offers warehousing and contract logistics, and DHL eCommerce focuses on lightweight cross-border parcels.

Operations

Headquartered in Bonn, Germany. Deutsche Post acquired DHL in stages between 1998 and 2002, and the parent group later rebranded as Deutsche Post DHL Group.
