Origins
Hertz was founded in 1918 by Walter L. Jacobs in Chicago with a fleet of a dozen Model T Fords. John D. Hertz acquired the business in 1923 and renamed it Hertz Drive-Ur-Self. Later owners included General Motors, RCA, and Ford.
Products
Hertz operates car rental services for leisure and business travelers, including premium and exotic cars under the Hertz Dream Cars brand. The company also offers truck rentals through Hertz Truck Rental and the equipment rental business that became Herc Rentals.
