Origins
Polaroid was founded in 1937 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, by Edwin H. Land and George Wheelwright III. The first commercial instant camera, the Polaroid Land Camera Model 95, was introduced in 1948.
Products
The brand is best known for instant cameras and film, including the iconic SX-70, OneStep, and Polaroid Now lines. The company also licenses the brand for sunglasses, eyewear, digital cameras, and consumer electronics.
Operations
The original Polaroid Corporation entered bankruptcy in 2001 and the brand has changed hands several times. The current Polaroid B.V. has revived the instant film business with new film formulations made in the Netherlands.
