Origins
The company that became Uniqlo started in 1949 as Ogori Shoji, a men’s clothing store opened by Hitoshi Yanai in Ube, Yamaguchi. His son Tadashi Yanai opened the first Unique Clothing Warehouse store in 1984 in Hiroshima, later shortened to Uniqlo.
