A 1994 American crime film weaving together the parallel stories of two hitmen, a boxer, and a gangster's wife over a few violent days in Los Angeles.
Production
Quentin Tarantino wrote and directed the film for Miramax on an $8 million budget, with co-story credit to Roger Avary. The cast included John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, and Bruce Willis. Filming took 10 weeks across Los Angeles in late 1993.
Reception
The film won the Palme d’Or at Cannes in May 1994, opened theatrically in October, and earned around $214 million worldwide. It received seven Academy Award nominations and took home the Best Original Screenplay Oscar.
Legacy
Pulp Fiction is widely credited with reshaping American independent film in the 1990s and with reviving John Travolta’s career. Its nonlinear structure, dialogue-heavy stretches, and pop-music needle drops became Tarantino’s enduring signatures.
