He broke through at thirty as Benjamin Braddock in Mike Nichols’s “The Graduate” and went on to lead “Midnight Cowboy,” “Lenny,” and “All the President’s Men.” He won Best Actor for “Kramer vs. Kramer” and “Rain Man” and reinvented himself comedically in “Tootsie” and “Wag the Dog.”
