Born Chan Kong-sang in British Hong Kong, he trained at the China Drama Academy in Peking opera and acrobatics for ten years before working as a stuntman in Hong Kong cinema.

He led the “Drunken Master” films, the “Police Story” series, and “Armour of God,” directing and choreographing many of his own action sequences. He became an international star with the “Rush Hour” franchise opposite Chris Tucker and “Shanghai Noon” opposite Owen Wilson, and continues in lead roles in Chinese and American productions.
