Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment released Underworld in September 2003. Len Wiseman directed from a screenplay developed with Danny McBride and Kevin Grevioux. Kate Beckinsale starred as Selene opposite Scott Speedman and Bill Nighy as the vampire elder Viktor.
Story
A war has raged in secret for centuries between aristocratic vampires and feral Lycans. Selene, a Death Dealer who hunts werewolves, becomes drawn to a human named Michael Corvin whom the Lycans seem unusually intent on capturing.
Reception
Underworld grossed nearly 96 million dollars worldwide and launched a franchise of five films through 2016, spanning prequels and sequels. The series became one of the longest-running horror-action franchises of the 2000s and 2010s.
