Anaconda was written by Nicki Minaj with multiple co-writers and sampled from Sir Mix-a-Lot’s 1992 song “Baby Got Back.” Production was handled by Polow da Don and Da Internz.
Reception
Released in August 2014, the single reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and the top five in many other countries. It earned three nominations at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards.
Music Video
The video, directed by Colin Tilley, set then-records for most YouTube views in a 24-hour period at the time of release. Sir Mix-a-Lot publicly endorsed the sample use and praised Minaj’s reworking.
