Queen of Hearts was written by Hank DeVito and originally recorded by Dave Edmunds in 1979. Juice Newton’s cover was produced by Richard Landis for her album “Juice” in 1981.

Reception

Released in May 1981, the single reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100, the top fifteen on the country chart, and number one on the U.S. adult contemporary chart. It earned Newton a Grammy nomination at the 1982 ceremony.

Legacy

Queen of Hearts became Newton’s signature song and one of the most-played country-crossover singles of its decade. It introduced her to international audiences and spent twenty-one weeks on the Hot 100.
