A 1991 puzzle game by DMA Design in which the player assigns skills to a procession of mindless rodents to guide them safely from entrance to exit.
Concept
Created by David Jones, Mike Dailly, and Russell Kay, Lemmings tasks the player with rescuing a fixed percentage of marching lemmings from each puzzle. Skills include Blocker, Climber, Floater, Bomber, Builder, Basher, Miner, and Digger.
Music
Each level uses jaunty MIDI takes on public-domain tunes, including Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue” and “She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain.” The signature “Let’s Go!” cheer rallies a new wave at the start of every stage.
Legacy
Lemmings shifted over 20 million copies and DMA Design later renamed itself Rockstar North. Remakes have been released for nearly every platform from PSP to mobile.
