Galaga

Origin

Galaga is the sequel to Namco’s earlier Galaxian, refining the formation-flying enemy patterns and adding new mechanics. Enemy ships can capture the player’s craft with a tractor beam, which the player can then liberate for a dual-fighter mode.

Gameplay

Each stage features waves of enemies that fly in choreographed swoops before settling into the top of the screen. The dual-fighter mechanic and challenge stages where enemies fly past without firing added variety.

Legacy

Galaga is one of the most successful arcade games of its era, beloved for its tight controls and depth. The cabinet has remained a staple of arcades, pizza parlors, and retro gaming compilations for decades.
