Origin
Overwatch grew out of the canceled MMO Project Titan. Director Jeff Kaplan and the team rebuilt assets into a 6v6 hero shooter with bright, animated-film aesthetics and a roster designed for varied playstyles.
Gameplay
Players choose heroes split between Tank, Damage, and Support roles to push payloads, capture points, or escort objectives. Distinct abilities and ultimate moves give each hero a recognizable identity.
Legacy
Overwatch became one of the best-selling games of 2016 and one of the largest competitive esports of the late 2010s. The free-to-play sequel Overwatch 2 launched in 2022, replacing the original.
