Concept
Created by Terry Cavanagh with chiptune music by Magnus Palsson, VVVVVV strips platforming down to gravity reversal. The player never jumps, only flips between floor and ceiling.
Gameplay
Stages are filled with single-screen rooms named after pun phrases and clever wordplay. Custom level editors and a deeply masochistic Veni Vidi Vici set piece have built a dedicated fan community.
Legacy
VVVVVV’s source code was released in 2020 and ported to the Nintendo Switch, Vita, and 3DS. It remains a touchstone of solo-developer indie design and 8-bit-inspired retro aesthetics.
