A 2014 American science fiction action film directed by Doug Liman about a public relations officer caught in a time loop during an alien invasion of Europe.
Production
Warner Bros. released Edge of Tomorrow in May 2014. The screenplay by Christopher McQuarrie, Jez Butterworth, and John-Henry Butterworth adapted Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s 2004 Japanese light novel All You Need Is Kill. Tom Cruise starred as Major William Cage, with Emily Blunt as the special-forces hero Rita Vrataski.
Story
In a near future where Earth has been overrun by squid-like aliens called Mimics, the PR officer Cage is forced into the front line at a Verdun beach landing. After he kills a rare Alpha Mimic and is doused in its blood, he begins reliving the same day repeatedly, learning to fight and to find a way to win the war.
Reception
Edge of Tomorrow grossed over 370 million dollars worldwide and earned widespread critical praise for its inventive time-loop structure and visual design. The film has been cited as one of the strongest original science fiction blockbusters of the 2010s, despite a modest opening weekend.
