A 2003 American martial arts film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino about a former assassin known as The Bride who seeks revenge on her old team and their leader Bill.
Production
Miramax released Kill Bill Volume 1 in October 2003 after Quentin Tarantino split the project into two parts during editing. The Bride was originated as a character by Tarantino and Uma Thurman during the shoot of Pulp Fiction in 1994.
Plot
The Bride, played by Uma Thurman, wakes from a four-year coma after being shot at her wedding rehearsal by her former employer and lover, Bill. She compiles a death list of five names and begins hunting down members of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad.
Style
Tarantino fused chambara samurai cinema, Hong Kong martial arts, Italian Western scoring, and 1970s grindhouse aesthetics into a stylized revenge tale. The film’s House of Blue Leaves fight sequence with the Crazy 88 became one of the decade’s most quoted action set pieces.
