Production
Lionsgate released Knives Out in November 2019. Rian Johnson conceived the project as a return to the Agatha Christie style of country-house whodunit. The ensemble was led by Daniel Craig as the detective Benoit Blanc and Ana de Armas as the nurse Marta Cabrera.
Story
After the eighty-fifth birthday of crime novelist Harlan Thrombey, the patriarch is found dead in his Massachusetts mansion. Detective Blanc arrives uninvited, and the investigation peels back the lies of three generations of an entitled family.
Reception
The film opened to wide acclaim and earned over 311 million dollars worldwide on a 40 million dollar budget. Rian Johnson received an Academy Award nomination for his original screenplay, and Netflix later acquired rights to two sequels starring Daniel Craig.
