WALL-E

Filter:

A 2008 American computer-animated science fiction film from Pixar about a small waste-collecting robot left on an abandoned Earth who falls in love with a sleek scout robot named EVE.

Production

Walt Disney Pictures released WALL-E in June 2008 as Pixar’s ninth feature. Andrew Stanton directed from a screenplay he had developed at Pixar story summits as early as 1994. Sound designer Ben Burtt voiced the title robot using textures from old film and radio archives.

Story

Seven centuries after humans abandoned a polluted Earth, a lone Waste Allocation Load Lifter named WALL-E spends his days compacting trash and curating found objects. The arrival of a probe robot, EVE, sent to look for plant life, sends him into space aboard the starship Axiom.

Reception

WALL-E earned six Academy Award nominations and won Best Animated Feature. Critics praised its nearly dialogue-free opening forty minutes and its meditation on consumer culture, automation, and ecology, and many consider it one of Pixar’s strongest works.
