Numb

Filter:

A 2003 Linkin Park single, a downtempo nu-metal track combining Chester Bennington's sung lead with electronic textures and piano motif.

Composition

Numb was written by the members of Linkin Park for the album “Meteora.” The track combines a piano motif and electronic textures by Mike Shinoda with Chester Bennington’s sung lead vocal, lacking the rap-vocal split common in many earlier band tracks.

Reception

Released in March 2003, Numb topped the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and reached the top twenty on the Hot 100. The album “Meteora” sold over twenty million copies worldwide.

Legacy

Linkin Park later combined Numb with Jay-Z’s “Encore” for the 2004 mash-up “Numb/Encore,” which won the Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. Numb remains the most-streamed song in the band’s catalog by a wide margin.
