Born in Bukidnon, Philippines, and raised in poverty, Pacquiao turned professional in 1995 at age 16. He fought at flyweight in his early career before moving up through eight weight classes.

Career

He won his first world title at flyweight in 1998 and his last at welterweight in the 2010s. He fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2015 in the highest-grossing boxing match ever and held the WBA welterweight title into 2021.

A left-handed pressure fighter, Pacquiao combined sprint speed with combinations and footwork in the southpaw stance. He was known for fast hands and the ability to throw punches from unusual angles.
