Born in Redding, California, Rapinoe played college football at the University of Portland before turning professional with the Chicago Red Stars in 2009.
Career
She played in the WPS, WUSA’s successor leagues, and the NWSL with OL Reign. With the United States she won World Cups in 2015 and 2019, scoring six goals in the latter tournament. She retired after the 2023 NWSL season.
