A 2000 Dreamcast action game by Smilebit about a graffiti gang in cel-shaded Tokyo-to using inline skates to outrun rival crews and a fascist police chief.
Aesthetic
Jet Set Radio popularized cel-shaded 3D graphics with its bold black outlines and flat colors. The pirate-radio soundtrack by Hideki Naganuma blended hip-hop, electronica, and J-rock.
Gameplay
Players join the GG’s gang and grind, wall-ride, and skate across three Tokyo districts, tagging walls before the Rokkaku Police hunt them down. Spray-can supplies refill at street vendors.
Legacy
Jet Set Radio’s style influenced later games such as Sunset Overdrive, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, and Crazy Taxi. A sequel called Jet Set Radio Future arrived for Xbox in 2002.
