A 2003 tile-matching puzzle game by PopCap Games in which a stone frog spits colored balls to break up an advancing serpentine chain before it reaches a temple skull.
Gameplay
Players aim from the center of the screen and shoot balls into a moving line, matching three or more of the same color to make them vanish. Power-ups slow the chain, reverse its direction, or trigger explosive clears.
Origin
Designed by Sukhbir Sidhu and the PopCap team, Zuma drew its theme from Mesoamerican mythology and grew from the casual download market that dominated mid-2000s PCs.
Legacy
Zuma became one of the most successful casual games of its era. The 2006 sequel Zuma’s Revenge and several mobile spin-offs extended the franchise after PopCap was acquired by Electronic Arts in 2011.
