A 2000 Coldplay single from their debut album "Parachutes," a guitar-led ballad that became the band's international breakthrough.
Composition
Yellow was written by the four members of Coldplay during recording sessions for the band’s debut album. Chris Martin has said the title was inspired by the yellow color of the Yellow Pages telephone directory in the studio.
Reception
Released as the second single from “Parachutes” in June 2000, Yellow reached the top five on the UK Singles Chart and was the band’s first single to reach the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States.
Legacy
The song’s music video, filmed in one take on a Studland Bay beach in Dorset, became one of the most-recognized British music videos of the early 2000s. Yellow earned Coldplay their first Grammy nomination at the 2002 ceremony.
