Born in Brooklyn, New York, Tyson was trained from age 13 by Cus D’Amato in upstate New York and turned professional in 1985.
Career
He won the WBC heavyweight title in November 1986 and unified the WBA and IBF belts within a year. He held the undisputed title until Buster Douglas defeated him in Tokyo in 1990. He fought into the 2000s and retired in 2005.

A right-handed peek-a-boo style boxer trained by D’Amato, Tyson combined head movement with short, powerful hooks and uppercuts. His knockout rate in his prime was among the highest in heavyweight history.
