History
Phoenicians founded a settlement at modern Ibiza Town around 654 BCE. The fortified hilltop of Dalt Vila and adjacent Phoenician necropolis at Puig des Molins form a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Culture
Since the 1980s the island has been a global hub for electronic dance music, with large nightclubs in San Antonio and Playa d’en Bossa drawing leading international DJs each summer.
