A designer who shapes how users interact with software through research, wireframing, and prototyping.
What UX designers do
UX designers interview users, define journeys, sketch interfaces, build interactive prototypes, run usability tests, and partner with engineers to ship the result. They balance user needs with business goals and technical constraints.
Training path
Most US UX designers hold a bachelor’s degree in design, human-computer interaction, psychology, or a related field. Many enter through bootcamps with strong portfolios. Senior roles often expect experience leading complex multi-platform products.
Tooling
Common tools include Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Miro, Lookback, UserTesting, and Maze. Design systems built in Figma or Storybook bridge design and engineering with shared components.
