A visual designer who creates logos, layouts, packaging, and digital graphics for clients across industries.
What graphic designers do
Graphic designers solve visual problems with type, image, and color. They build brand identities, design print and digital ads, lay out books and magazines, and produce packaging, signage, and event materials. Many also handle motion graphics and social content.
Training path
Most US graphic designers hold a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, communication design, or visual arts. Strong portfolios with diverse case studies and process documentation often matter more than degree pedigree.
Tooling
Common tools include Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, plus Figma for UI work, After Effects for motion, and Procreate for sketching. Designers also use prepress tools and printer specifications when producing printed work.
