Endurance Riding

Filter:

A long-distance equestrian sport in which horse and rider cover challenging trails of up to 160 kilometres in a single day.

Origin and rules

Modern endurance riding traces to the Tevis Cup, a 100-mile ride launched in 1955 across California’s Sierra Nevada. The FEI added endurance to its disciplines in 1982 and now sanctions racing across six continents.

How it plays

Riders complete a marked course in stages separated by veterinary checks. Horses must pass strict heart-rate and soundness inspections; failure to recover means elimination. The first rider with a fit-to-continue horse at the finish wins.

Competition

The FEI World Endurance Championships and the President of the UAE Endurance Cup are the leading events. The United Arab Emirates, France, the United States, Spain, and Bahrain dominate the elite ranks.
