Born in Sedan, France to a Cameroonian father and French mother, Yannick Noah grew up in Cameroon and was scouted as a teenager by Arthur Ashe.
Career
He turned professional in 1977 and won the 1983 French Open against Mats Wilander, the first French man to win the title in 37 years. After retiring he captained France to two Davis Cups and a Fed Cup.
