What HVAC technicians do

Training path
Most US HVAC technicians complete a six-month to two-year technical program, then a three- to five-year apprenticeship. EPA Section 608 certification is required to handle refrigerants. Many add NATE certifications to demonstrate expertise.
Specializations
Specializations include residential service, commercial refrigeration, industrial HVAC, controls and building automation, supermarket refrigeration, and chiller service for large facilities.
