Filter:

The premier American open-wheel motor racing series, blending oval, road, and street courses in a single championship.

Origin and rules

American open-wheel racing traces to the early 20th century, with the first Indianapolis 500 contested in 1911. After decades of split sanctioning, the IndyCar Series unified the discipline in 2008. Drivers race Dallara chassis with Honda or Chevrolet engines.

How it plays

The season blends superspeedways, short ovals, road circuits, and street courses such as Long Beach and Detroit. Races run between 80 and 250 laps. Points reward finishing position with bonuses for pole position and laps led.

Competition

The Indianapolis 500, held each Memorial Day weekend, is the season’s crown jewel and the largest single-day sporting event in the world. AJ Foyt, Mario Andretti, and Scott Dixon are among the legends. Drivers come from across the Americas and Europe.
