Quad Bike Racing

Filter:

A motor sport in which riders race four-wheeled all-terrain vehicles over closed dirt circuits or open desert routes.

Origin and rules

Quad bikes were popularised by Honda’s 1970 ATC90 trike, with four-wheel variants following in the 1980s. The FIM added quad classes to motocross, cross-country, and rally raid disciplines, while open-desert quad racing flourished in the Americas.

How it plays

Disciplines include quadcross on closed motocross tracks, supermoto on asphalt and dirt, enduro through long stage routes, and rally raid such as the Dakar. Races may run sprint heats or long-distance stages depending on the format.

Competition

The FIM Quadcross World Cup, the Dakar Rally’s quad category, and various national series anchor the calendar. France, the United States, Russia, the Czech Republic, and Argentina have produced top riders. Quad racing is not on the Olympic programme.
